Gotei 13

Gotei 13 is the core of the Shinigami's combat power. It is not just an army, but a collection of thirteen relatively autonomous divisions, each led by a captain. The organization's main task is the defense of Seireitei, the center of the Soul Society, from any external and internal threats. In addition, Gotei 13 is responsible for sending combat groups to the world of the living to destroy Hollows and protect people, as well as for performing the Konso rite, which guides the souls of the deceased to the Soul Society. The captain of each division has almost unlimited power over his subordinates, which makes Gotei 13 more of an alliance of independent armies under a single supreme command than a monolithic formation.
