Zaraki Kenpachi is the captain of the Eleventh Division of the Gotei 13 and the eleventh holder of the Kenpachi title, which is bestowed upon the strongest Shinigami who has killed the previous bearer. He is a huge, ferocious warrior who lives for battle and enjoys a fight more than anything in the world. He did not know his own name until he met Yachiru Kusajishi, whom he named after the only person who ever inspired his admiration — Yachiru Unohana. Zaraki grew up in the most brutal districts of the Rukongai and became a captain without undergoing the usual training at the Shinigami Academy, by killing the previous Kenpachi in front of two hundred witnesses. His spiritual sword remained nameless for a long time, but after a deadly training session with Unohana he finally heard its voice and gained his shikai Nozarashi, and later a bankai that turns him into an uncontrollable berserker. Zaraki is the embodiment of raw strength and battle instinct, but behind this lies a complex personality that values worthy opponents and feels a deep attachment to his subordinates, especially to Yachiru.
