Iba Tetsuzaemon is a Shinigami and captain of the Seventh Division of the Gotei 13. His lieutenant is Atau Rindo. Previously, Iba held the position of lieutenant of the Seventh Division under Captain Komamura Sajin and, before that, was a member of the Eleventh Division. Iba is an experienced warrior who masters all forms of Shinigami combat, but prefers not to display his strength openly. He wears black glasses, smokes, and keeps his Zanpakutō in the form of a short blade inside his uniform. On his back is tattooed a burning cat and characters meaning "attracting good luck." These details, along with his manner of speech, are reminiscent of a typical yakuza. Iba loves to fight, but places loyalty to the division above personal desires and does not consider it shameful to retreat. He is devoted to his captain and takes it hard when the latter needs solitude. Iba heads the Male Shinigami Association and often comes into conflict with the Female Shinigami Association. He speaks in the Hiroshima dialect and tries to popularize it. Years after the victory over Yhwach, Iba becomes captain of the Seventh Division.
