Hitsugaya Toshiro is the captain of the Tenth Division of the Gotei 13, the youngest captain in the history of the Soul Society. Despite his young age and boyish appearance, he is a recognized genius wielding the ice-type zanpakutō Hyōrinmaru, the strongest of its kind. Toshiro is distinguished by a mature, serious character and a sharp mind that allows him to quickly analyze battle situations and uncover conspiracies. His past is connected to Junrinan, the first district of West Rukongai, where he lived with his grandmother and his childhood friend Hinamori Momo. Even then, his enormous spiritual power was uncontrollable and threatened those around him, until Matsumoto Rangiku set him on the path of a Shinigami. After training at the Academy and serving under Shiba Isshin, he quickly reached the rank of captain. In battle, Toshiro relies on control over ice, water, and weather, and after the war with the Quincy he mastered his completed bankai, which allows him to freeze not only matter but also the functions of things.
